The Blacksmith: tempering, repair and modification
How to temper a weapon with gems and gold, repair it, modify it, remove tempering, and what the Forge adds: Element Imbue, Chi and Shells.
- Tempering with gems and gold adds stars: upgrades you can buy in battle.
- Repair before the durability bar runs out, or you lose a star.
- The Forge next to him adds elements and Chi.

The Blacksmith stands in the Market beside the shared Forge. He is where a weapon gets its real power: every temper earns a star on your flask ring. Bring gems and gold.

His menu
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Temper | Add a star to one stat with gems and gold. |
| Chi Temper | Tempering for Chi weapons. |
| Modify | Spend modification points: Basic Mod for gold, a finer mod for Miso Koins, and Special Modification with items. |
| Repair | Restore a weapon's temper or element durability. |
| Remove Tempering | Take every temper off a weapon so you can start again. |
| Mod Removal | Undo a weapon's modifications. |
| Buy Weapons | This week's shelf of Rank 3 weapons. |
| Activation | Unseal a sealed weapon (weapons on DWO Reborn are not sealed). |
Tempering
- Talk to the Blacksmith and choose Temper.
- Pick the weapon, then the stat to temper: Attack+, Damage+, Defense+, Life+ or Musou+. Each row shows the gems and gold it costs.
- Confirm. The stat gains a star, which is one more use of that upgrade on the flask ring in every battle.
| Gem | Tempers |
|---|---|
| Amber | Attack+ |
| Topaz | Damage+ |
| Jade | Defense+ |
| Lapis | Life+ |
| Ruby | Musou+ |
- The nth star of a stat costs n gems of its colour and n temper points: the 5th star of Attack costs 5 Amber.
- Gold rises with the weapon's rank and the star. On the starter Rank 4 Spear the five stars of one stat cost 30, 60, 90, 120 and 160 gold.
- A successful temper also refills the weapon's temper durability.
- Sometimes a temper also adds a blue bar: a permanent boost to what that stat's flask upgrade gives. Higher-grade gems make it more likely.
- With a cap of 24 you cannot max everything. A common start is five stars in the stat you use most (often Attack) and the rest spread over Defense and Damage.
A stat with no stars becomes a random slot on the flask ring. That is not always bad: random slots give strong short buffs and can be fired again and again.
Repairing
Each battle wears down a weapon's temper durability. When the bar runs out, the weapon loses one random star and the bar refills. Repair before that happens:
- Temper repair costs gems of any colour (as many as the weapon's rank) plus gold: for a Rank 4 weapon 4 gems and 480 gold.
- Element repair restores the element bar for Ore; Rank 5 and higher weapons also cost gold.
- Tempering a new star also refills the bar, so if you were going to temper anyway, that doubles as a free repair.
If your weapon is low on durability and you have gems for a new star, temper instead of repairing.
Modification
Every weapon has 5 modification points (shown as Modify n/5). Modifications change the weapon itself:
| Modification | Points | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Basic value | 1 | Raises one starting stat. The only way to raise Movement or Jump. |
| Increase value | 2 | Raises how much one stat's flask upgrade gives. |
| Max temper | 1 | Raises the temper cap by one. |
| Emblem | - | Changes the C1 or C6 emblem, with an Emblem Stone (50 Miso Koins at the Antique Dealer), through Special Modification. |
- Basic Mod is paid in gold and lowers some other stats a little; the Miso Koin version lowers them by less. On DWO Reborn a stat is never lowered below its unmodified value.
- Mods also cost gems, and their price grows with the weapon's rank.
- Changing an emblem resets the weapon's Usage.
Mod points do not come back by themselves. Plan before you spend them, especially on a weapon you will keep.
Removing tempering
Remove Tempering strips every temper from a weapon at once so you can rebuild it. It costs Miso Koins (the weapon's rank times its temper points) and no gems come back. There is no way to remove just one star.
The Forge: Element Imbue, Chi and Shells
The Forge stands next to the Blacksmith in the Market (the Shared Forge), and you can place your own in your house. It offers:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Element Imbue | Puts an element into a weapon, in up to five stages, using a Rank 2 orb and Ore. See Elements and orbs. |
| Chi | Turns a tempered weapon into a Chi weapon with a chi gem and Ore, raising its base stats over three levels. Chi gems come from winning Melee battles and from the Antique Dealer. |
| Refine | House forges only: spend Shells to raise the forge's success rate. |
- The Shared Forge charges gold and succeeds much less often than a forge in your own house. At home there is no gold fee, and a failed imbue keeps the orb.
- Shells are bought from the Merchant (Exchange) with gold or Miso Koins.
Grind, Master Grind and Enhancement Synthesis are switched off on DWO Reborn for now.
