Musou attacks and the Musou gauge
How the Musou gauge fills, how to fire an invincible Musou attack, True Musou at low Life, and what else spends your gauge.
- Musou is your big special attack, and you cannot be hurt while it runs.
- Fill the red Musou gauge by fighting or by holding L, then press L.
- Use it to escape danger first, to finish enemies second.
Tap an underlined word to see what it means.
Musou is your big special attack: a long, powerful flurry during which you cannot be hurt. It runs on the Musou gauge, the red bar under your Life bar in the bottom-left corner.
Filling the gauge
- Hitting enemies fills it. On DWO Reborn the gain depends on the move, not on how much damage it did, so Attack boosts do not charge you faster.
- Being hit fills it a little.
- Holding the Musou key (L) while the gauge is not full charges it by hand. You cannot move or attack while you charge.
- When your Life is red (below a quarter), the gauge refills by itself.
- Items such as the Remedy and pickups such as Aged Wine refill it in battle.
How fast holding L charges the gauge depends on the Musou temper stars of the weapon in your hand: the more stars, the faster it fills. Being hit fills it less than in the original game. Right after a Musou ends, holding L charges nothing for a moment.
Firing a Musou
- Wait until the gauge is completely full.
- Press the Musou key (L, or gamepad button 4).
- Keep holding L to keep attacking. The Musou drains the gauge, and when the gauge runs dry your character plays the finishing blow.
If you are holding L to charge and the gauge becomes full, nothing fires. Let go of L and press it again.
You are invincible for the whole Musou. Use that: a Musou is first an escape (from a crowd, a combo or a bad duel), second a finisher, and almost never a good opener.
A bigger Musou stat means a longer Musou. Musou and True Musou do a little less damage to other players than to soldiers.
True Musou
When your Life bar is red, your Musou becomes a True Musou: a stronger version that sets enemies on fire. Low Life also refills your gauge by itself, so a player in the red is often one button away from a True Musou. Remember that before you chase someone who is nearly beaten.
The True Musou's burn is the strongest burn in the game, twice as strong as an ordinary Fire burn.
Other things that use the gauge
| Action | Needs or costs |
|---|---|
| Musou attack | A full gauge; drains it while it runs. |
| Charge-block (Elemental Guard) | A gauge above zero; drains while held and costs extra for every swing it counters. See Defence. |
| Break Charge | 130 points (70 out of a dash). |
| Evolution attacks | A full gauge to start, but they do not use it up. |
Nothing at all fills your gauge from Break Charge hits, burn damage or hits on an enemy who is already beaten. Carrying two or more treasures in battle disables Musou.
Musou Rage (advanced)
If you equip a special Awakening item as your battle item, the seventh flask slot becomes Musou Rage instead of the usual Advance+. For 30 seconds you transform into a hero with permanent Super Armor (extendable up to 50 seconds). Its start and end cancel whatever you are doing, and it replaces your Advance+, so learn the normal Advance+ first.
